Nordia Mothersille
Singer/songwriter Nordia Mothersille hails from Islington St Mary. At age ten she was already penning songs heavily influenced by Tracy Chapman, Luther Ingram and Etta James; the soundtrack of her home life with her grandparents.
Throughout her days at Marymount High school, she wrote songs and performed them for her friends. She also sang in church a lot, so it’s no surprise that In 2017, the teen recorded her first single “Ice Cream and Chocolate Bars” for budding producer Reef Records – her next-door neighbours.
The song which is still one of her favourites is about love gone very, very wrong – “ it was a Saturday night I wrote it, about 2am, I couldn’t sleep, the lyrics were on my mind so I stayed up and wrote them”. The song had moderate success.
In August of 2019 Nordia’s talent was recognized by Jamaica’s ace producer Ainsley ‘Notnice’ Morris after she entered an IG competition where the winner was given a chance to be featured on Notnice’s Kyng Midas Album. Interestingly, though not winning the competition, Nordia was still selected to be a part of the project, as NotNice was impressed with her superb writing skills and smoky vocals. The singer/songwriter went on to be signed officially to Notnice Records in 2019. Though we weren’t in the same place when we recorded due to covid protocols etc., -to hear them singing something that I wrote was heartfelt. It felt like we were doing something necessary and it was super fulfilling.”
Nordia continues to hone her song writing skills, having penned Richie Stephens – Distance, and co – written with Jah Vinci on ‘Not with me’, ‘Passion’, ‘Soul & Body’. She writes stories, poetry and ultimately songs. The singer/songwriter says she is a Jamaican girl who’s hoping her lyrics represent your emotions and her songs motivate you and the impact is undeniable!
Mothersille is a smoky fresh sound in the NotNice Records camp, with an EP on the way. Look out for her also on the upcoming Kyng Midas 1.5!
